Element 30 is a London-based deep-tech startup developing zinc-ion batteries as a safer, cheaper, and more sustainable alternative to lithium-ion. Founded by Dr Guanjie He and Professor Dan Brett on the back of years of academic research, Element 30 is targeting the energy storage gap that stands between today's grid and a genuinely renewable-powered future.
Zinc, the 30th element on the periodic table, gives the company its name and its edge: abundant, non-toxic, and free from the ethical and supply chain risks of lithium and cobalt. Element 30 is being built in partnership with Prosemino, the London-based clean tech venture builder.
Brand Identity
I created Element 30's full visual identity from the ground up, including the logo, visual language, colour system, and brand guidelines. The brief was to build a brand that felt credible in both scientific and investor contexts, communicating technical rigour without sacrificing visual clarity. The identity draws on the language of materials science and precision engineering, resulting in a mark and system that feels grounded, distinctive, and built for longevity.
Website
The website needed to communicate complex electrochemical technology clearly to a non-specialist audience while remaining credible to the academics, investors, and industry partners who would also read it. I designed a structure that introduced the problem, explained zinc-ion's advantages over lithium without oversimplifying the science, and presented Element 30's founding team and roadmap with appropriate authority.
